Hand-held dictionaries
Sony
Sony's DD-IC100 is pretty slick because its only dictionaries are embedded, ie. burned on an integrated circuit (IC.) Other models like the DD-150 are bulkier because they let you read 3.5" EBXA CD-ROMs, which are those used in the original DataDiscman devices. A cheaper IC-based model is the DD-IC90.

- Just a note on electronic dictionaries, I've used an older version of
the wordtank before, however while in Japan last month I picked up Casio's
new XD-S2100,

and I have to tell you it puts the WordTank to shame. For the serious
learners, I think that you really want something that has $B9-<-1q
(B built in, as well as colloquial expression, and proverbs, and many sample
sentences.
- The word tank has none of these things, though the casio has them all.
